To Get 2 Stroke Or Not Toget 2 Stroke?!?! HELP?

The 125cc 2 stroke is the absolute best bike to learn to wrench and learn to ride CORRECTLY on. Lots of good habits are formed from the aggressive 125cc rider. That bike will teach you all about the importance of momentum, shift points, clutching, you name it. KTM or YZ, TM, CR, KX, RM whatever.. Does not matter if they are older or not as long as you are above the year 2000, and you have her running right (easy). GO FOR IT! Be a real rider and learn the best way, 2 stroke. I feel bad for kids who never rode a 2 stroker, they are missing out on the funnest motorcycle engine and riding style ever.

No difference in power. However, where you can run a 2-Stroke has some limitations. Most 2-Stroke engines are EPA Approved. But does not mean they can be used in ALL waterways. In California, no 2-Stroke engines are allowed on any water body that's a reservoir for any County, city or town. There are a few exceptions but must meet the strict CARB (California Air Resources Board) requirements. If they do, then a special decal is issued with a CARB Registration number. 2-Stroke engine is lighter in weight and will accelerate quicker, but a 4-Stroke will run smoother and get better fuel economy along with longer engine life.

How old is your Yamaha? Have you recently gotten the ring and piston replaced? Make sure you had an engine oil change. Use a good engine oil. Also make sure that there is not too much engine oil. Also check that your rear brake-shoes; they may be too tight even when your foot is not on the brake pedal. You can also try adding some 2-Stroke oil in the gasoline (the main tank) in addition to the oil in the side-box. Your auto-mechanic can check if enough oil is going into the engine from the side-box. If nothing helps, it means the engine needs an overhaul. I guess the person who suggested that you should check the radiator is probably not aware that such small engines are AIR-COOLED; they DO NOT HAVE A RADIATOR.

5. 2 stroke or 4 stroke?

2-stroke is simpler, fewer parts, likely cheaper. It gives you a little more torque for its size because every 2nd stroke is a power stroke instead of every 4th stroke. The disadvantage is that 2-strokes are much less efficient because they do not burn all the gas. They pollute a lot for for the same reason, all that unburned gas and oil goes into the air. They are not as smooth, they do not last as long, and they are noisier.

it doesnt matter. if your riding a race geared 2 stroke it might take a little more skill, but thats it... i ride 2 strokes on trails... i love 'em

there is not such a thing as 2 stroke fuel!...its normal fuel with 2 stroke oil added....a 4 stroke will run ok with oil added,if a little smokie...just change the plug

A 250 has a lot of power. It also depends if you are comfortable w/ 2 strokes. They have a different power band than 4 strokes and need a lot more throttle/clutch play. It's not too much power if you know how to control it. Just be safe when riding and do not go full throttle until you are comfortable
